Six-Stage Process

The Olympiad programme in India follows five stages, beginning from the school level and leading to the International Olympiads held worldwide.

6-Stage Olympiad Flow

Stage I

National Standard Examination (NSE)

Students from Classes 1–12 can participate. This stage tests scientific aptitude, logical reasoning, and conceptual understanding. Top performers qualify for the next stage.

Stage II

National Science Olympiad (NSO)

Qualified students from NSE appear for NSO. Conducted as per ISRC norms, it assesses analytical, conceptual, and experimental skills in science.

Stage III

National Eligibility Selection Olympiad (NESO)

Top 10 students from NSO qualify for NESO, focusing on creative problem-solving, research aptitude, and innovative thinking under ISRC guidelines.

Stage VI

International Olympiad (IO)

The top Indian team represents the nation globally, competing in diverse subjects, showcasing India’s scientific excellence and innovation.

Stage V

Pre-Departure Camp (PDC)

Finalists undergo intense preparation before representing India internationally. Students receive theoretical and experimental training sessions.

Stage IV

Orientation-cum-Selection Camp Olympiad (OCSCO)

Selected students attend the camp under mentorship from top educators and scientists, receiving advanced subject training and preparation.

Eligibility Criteria

Participation in the Olympiad is open to students who fulfill the following eligibility conditions :

Enrollment

The student must be enrolled (U-DISE registered) in any school — Central, State, Private, or unrecognized - and studying in Classes 1 to 12.

Citizenship

The participant must be an Indian citizen or a student studying in India under any recognized educational institution.

Academic Eligibility

The student should have an interest and aptitude in Science, Mathematics, or related subjects, depending on the Olympiad category.

School Authorization

Registration must be done through the school authorities or any authorized Olympiad center.
